New and revived foundations in the new German states account for many of the almost 900 new listings among the 6812 foundations listed in this, the second edition of this work. The arrangement is alphabetical by name of foundation, with two indexes: by the purpose of the foundation (too many entries under the 13 categories mitigate the usefulness of this index) and by location of the foundation. 260 defunct foundations are listed separately. Most of the foundations are described fully, including the amount of money they had at the end of 1993, and the amount they distribute each year. The work is expected to appear every two years. Based on the two English works mentioned above, the goal of this guide is to make available information about sources of cultural support -- not only from the European Union and the Council of Europe, but also from UNESCO and national foundations which grant awards internationally. The information is not always carefully presented and organized; the user needs to be persistent. [sh/mrh]

Many Spanish foundations have come into existence since 1975, and this work lists 2716 of them -- many more than any other Spanish list. The arrangement is geographical -- by region, province, place and then name of institution. Some entries have a lot of information, some less, not necessary reflecting their importance. In light of the many entries that consist solely of name and address, and the preponderance of official organizations such as the Ministerio de Cultura, this book is not exactly a model of a national foundation directory.
