In contrast to the original Lexikon der deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur which covered authors from the beginning of the century to the present, the thoroughly revised Neues Handbuch (publ. 1990) focused on authors publishing after 1950. The title under review is an "updated" paperback ed. of this work. Given that no new authors were added, and that primary bibliographies were only minimally updated (if at all), libraries which own the 1990 ed. will not feel the need to replace it with this title.
