Bibliographic control of Russian publications of the 18th century is better than that of the 19th century, thanks mainly to the two bibliographies of Aleksandr Nikolaevic Neustroev for the period 1703-1802. An effort to cover the first quarter of the 19th century has been in progress since 1997, however only one volume (covering the first three letters of the Russian alphabet) has appeared. For that reason this article-level bibliography of literary journals from 1800 to 1812 is particularly valuable. The articles of 86 journals are completely reviewed under the categories of "Belles Lettres," "Criticism," and "Miscellaneous." An important shortcoming of the bibliography is that the only index is for personal names; it even lacks an index of the titles that are reviewed. Nevertheless, this is an extremely useful reference tool, not only for literary scholars, but also for historians and those who are interested in the reception of Western European culture in Russia.
